Background Eraser Tool

In this video he describes the background eraser tool.  It is very effective when you are trying to cut out a photo with a lot of hair.  You must make a layer under the original photo.  Left click and hold on the eraser tool.  You can adjust the size of the brush to erase the background.  You can also experiment with the tolerance.  It will be more strict if you have a smaller number and most likely will not remove the original image.  This is also used to make a png.  I think this would be useful in a project to replace the backgrounds of the original photo and make it something different.  

Dispersion Effect

In this video it describes how to create the dispersion effect.  You have to cut out the model using the quick selection tool.  Then click on select and mask, in view mode choose black and refine the edges (second brush).  Output it to a new layer and make the canvas bigger.  Add a background to the new layer and place it behind the model layer.  You must duplicate the layer and liquify it.  Warp the model and using the brush on the masked layer you can start painting to have the dispersion effect.  You should adjust the brush size to give more of the effect.  I think this would be helpful in a project because it can make your project look more complex.  It makes your photo look like it is coming apart or exploding.

In this video he is going to be describing the lasso and marquee tool.  They may be the basic tools for photoshop but they are incredibly useful.  It is a freeform pen tool that you use to make a selection.  It is also used to make refinements in your work.  The polygon is straight lines and you must close the path.  The magnetic lasso sucks the line closest to the selection.  It should jump to the closest line and you can adjust the pixel selection size.  The frequency is how often it makes points in the selection.  It draws a perfect line and curves.  You can feather out the edges so it is not such a harsh selection.  It is a great tool to select things you want to remove from a photo quickly.

Pumpkin Extra Credit

  Pumpkin Extra Credit Total time: 1 hour     For my pumpkin creation I decided to make a zombie standing outside the entrance of a cemetery.  To do this, I placed the zombies body on the background and erased his head.  Then I masked out the pumpkin from its original background and placed it on the zombie.  I modified the pumpkin to make it a reasonable head shape and size.  Next, I used the quick selection tool to select the face from another pumpkin and I placed it on the head.  Finally, I put my tag brush on the doors.  There were holes on the doors and I removed them by using the patch tool.  I warped the tag brush to make it look more realistic.  Overall, I really like how this came out.  I think my zombie with the pumpkin head is really cute.   The images I used:

Sketches for Portfolio

  Sketches for Portfolio For my portfolio sketches I wanted to do something creative for my front cover and back cover.  I decided to go with a geometric shape theme for those 2 pages.  For the table of contents, I want it to look like a polaroid but I will have the page numbers assigned to each project.  I will have 2 pieces of artwork on each page with my artist statements about them.  Using InDesign to create my portfolio will be challenging but fun and worth it in the end.

Logo

       For this project I created five moodboards and five sketches.    I used the words adventurous, passionate, positive and courageous to describe me.    Then I created five logos that I thought could go with my mood boards. I ended up picking passionate because I feel that I give my all when I try to do an assignment or anything in life.    I am very hard-working and I have a lot of passion for what I do.    I did not want my logo to look too basic so I made it look like fire. Then I used complementary colors. I like this technique because the colors do not clash and they both stand out.   S ketching my logos and overall picking one out took about 2 1/2 hours. I am very happy with my outcome and I can’t wait to see what else I do.  Total time: 2 1/2 hours 5 moodboards... 5 sketches 4 logo versions
